How The Convenings Work

The Convenings dives into life’s big questions: How can we live meaningful lives, as fully as possible in spite of disease and disability until the end of our lives and how do we want that end to go? We not only engage individuals but whole communities to get these needed conversations started.

We are invited into a community by an organizing committee. Each community works with our planning team to create an initial event hosted by broadcast journalist Cathy Wurzer. Cathy leads participants through a fast paced, thoughtful and non-threatening public conversation about what matters most now and at the end of our lives. The event includes music, performances and storytelling done by local community members.

In the months after that first event, Convenings Communities engage in advance care planning sessions, book clubs and dinner discussions about living and dying well. Cathy comes back to town, to reConvene community members 6 to 8 months later to learn how efforts are going. This reConvening brings participants together with artists from the community for conversation and celebration.

The Convenings audience

Each community will work with our planning team to make sure The Convenings series of events are personal and meaningful for each local community. Interested in having The Convenings come to your community? Please contact Project Manager Sadie Rubin or call 612-362-3724 for more information.
